  Virtual wellbeing week is being run 25th April to 1st May . It is aimed at healthcare staff and encourages you to take a moment to recognise, reflect and reconnect. You can join a range of events organised by Together We're Better: Staffordshire and Stoke on Trent . Reading can support health and wellbeing and help develop empathy. We'd encourage you to take a look at our Reading Well book collection - this is especially created with mood enhancing and self-help books. You can visit the library to view the collection or browse online . Why not take some time out for yourself and read something different? #SSOTStaffWellbeing

 If you are embarking on your final placement in April / May: You are welcome to continue to loan items from the library, but please be aware that normal loan periods will still apply. Items may be requested by another user and thus need to be returned. Late return of requested items will still incur fines. Automatic renewals will run as normal, but if you wish to try to avoid having an item potentially due for return at a time when you really cannot come in, you can attempt to renew your books early via your account on Library Search. Also all library books must be returned and any outstanding fines settled before the end of your course. Loans will not extend beyond the course end date/graduation.

  Bowel cancer is a general term for cancer that begins in the large bowel. Depending on where the cancer starts, bowel cancer can also be referred to as colon or rectal cancer. Bowel cancer is the fourth most common cancer in the UK and the second biggest cancer killer. Nearly 43,000 people are diagnosed with bowel cancer every year in the UK. The 3 main symptoms of bowel cancer are: persistent blood in your poo – that happens for no obvious reason or is associated with a change in bowel habit a persistent change in your bowel habit – which is usually having to poo more and your poo may also become more runny persistent lower abdominal (tummy) pain, bloating or discomfort – that's always caused by eating and may be associated with loss of appetite or significant unintentional weight loss In order to raise awareness for Bowel Cancer, the team at Bowel Cancer UK are using 2022’s campaign to bring everyone together; as they believe that together we can save more lives. ...

This has been because of changes to resources provided by external suppliers, changes to library resources and the knock-on effect of these changes to other services.    The Health Library will have reduced opening hours over the Easter holiday weekend. Good Friday, 15th April :  9 am - 5 pm Saturday, 16th April :  9 am - 5 pm Easter Sunday, 17th April : 9 am - 5 pm Easter Monday, 18th April : Closed You can still  access content online .

 The excellent search engine NICE Evidence Search is being decommissioned 31st March 2022. You will not be able to use this resource after this date. Reference to NICE Evidence Search has been removed from the Health Library website. Alternative resources you might like to consider are: TRIP NHS Knowledge and Library Hub You can find links to these resources as well as additional help on our NHS Resources page .

 The way to check for NHS journals is changing! The NHS A-Z list is being withdrawn. 31st March 2022. This list will no longer be available. Switch to using Browzine. Browzine is a third party tool provided by Health Education England. No login is required to browse the list. Access to full-text articles will vary depending on your organisation: select the right list from our journals page .  HDAS the Healthcare Databases Advanced Search facility will close 31 st March 2022. After this date, all your saved searches and alerts will be deleted . Export your saved searches or alerts NOW ! When it’s gone, it’s gone.  Nurses working for UHNM and North Staffs Combined Healthcare can now access a range of key nursing-specialist journal titles from the RCN. Journals include: Cancer nursing practice Emergency nurse Learning Disability Practice Mental Health Practice Nurse Researcher Nursing Children and Young People Nursing Management Nursing Older People Nursing standard Primary Health Care You can find the titles on our browzine list of journals . Just log in with your NHS OpenAthens username when prompted to access the full-text. Because of the way RCN have configured their website, a few articles may not be accessible but you can request them free of charge.
