The Statistics for Healthcare current awareness feed has now been updated. If you are already subscribing to this email update there should be no need to change your subscription. The feeds are now combined using feed.informer rather than Yahoo.Pipes.

Dr Foster collect and collate a range of data in order to provide healthcare information and monitor performance in the NHS. They publish the hospital guide each year which allows you to compare various factors from NHS institutions. Here is the 2012 Hospital Guide .

The West Midlands Public Health Observatory (WMPHO) can provide you with lots of information and data about public health issues. You can find links to reports, charts and data for a wide range of topics from alcohol issues, to climate change and health, long term mortality trends, older people’s health issues and social care with many more in-between. You can also view local profiles across a range of measurements, where the data can be broken down by NHS trust or geographical area. Please note that during 2013 the public health observatories will be incorporated into Public Health England's Knowledge and Intelligence Team (West Midlands).

The Health & Social Care Information Centre maintains a number of resources based on data and technology. You can find statistics and reports relating to a range of specific conditions and services . Popular topics include community care, hospital care, patient experience and prescribing. You can also search for particular data.

There are a number of different sources you can use to gather statistics about healthcare issues and populations. Office for National Statistics The Office for National Statistics (ONS) collate and publish statistics on a wide range of issues that affect the UK population. You can find links to all sorts of statistical collections on our Statistics subject links page ; including: Local statistics for Newcastle Under Lyme, Stoke on Trent and Staffordshire Moorlands Office of National Statistics NHS Information Centre as well as European and World information. You can also sign-up for email alerts so that you are informed about the latest release of data and reports, where providers make this available via a news feed. Keele University has now added the statistics package StatsDirect to the Health Library IT Suite. Students are requested to use computers in the IT Suite before requesting access to those in the Library Training Suite. Library staff are not trained in the use of this package, for further advice, please ask your department or contact Karen Rhodes for information on the next Research Statistics Advice Clinic. From the 1st April Cancer Research UK has provided CancerStats reports and PowerPoint presentations free for download. The reports cover incidence, mortality and survival of specific cancers, causes of cancer and cancer in the UK, Europe and worldwide. To access simply go to http://publications.cancerresearchuk.org/ and click on Our Publications . CancerStats can be found by browsing By Type.
