Health Library Reduced Opening Hours Xmas 2018

Why do you need a Literature Search?

There are many reasons why you might want a literature search completed. Our Outreach team support NHS staff who work with our community NHS organisations. They asked their enquirers why they wanted a literature search: 20% wanted to share the latest research with colleagues 12% wanted to use the information for patient advice 11% used the information to support service development 9% were looking at an audit or cost information 9% wanted to use the information to support pathway development Chart showing the reasons users ask for literature searches You can ask for a literature search either online or by completing a form at the counter. We can help - CASE STUDY AT NORTH STAFFS COMBINED HEALTHCARE TRUST

The Health Library can help you in many different ways. Here is an example from our Outreach Service. Enquiry: Research and other evidence to inform how technology in healthcare can enable self-referral and through self-management improve engagement and outcomes. The information would be used to support an application for funding from NHS Digital as part of the National Digital Exemplar Programme. Service Provided: An advanced systematic search was carried out on PsychInfo and a freetext search on all healthcare databases, followed by a search on internet resources to find the most recent evidence and any related “grey literature”. The search was limited to focus on the use of technology with children and adolescents and on programmes in schools following further discussion with the project lead Outcome: Successful bid for £2.6m funding Feedback: “ The lit search supported our successful application for £2.6m in funding from NHS Digital to develop Trust systems

What inspired you to work in Healthcare?

What inspired you to work in healthcare? We’ve created a new collection at the Health Library called Patient Voices. Here you can read stories from the patient perspective of how they live with, cope and manage their and their family’s healthcare situations. We have DVDs of popular films as well as a book collection. Come along to the rotunda and find the collection on the shelves at the end of the journal run. Photo of the Patient Voices collection

Upgrade to Dynamed Plus

We have upgraded our version of Dynamed to Dynamed Plus. Dynamed Plus is available to UHNM staff only, via their NHS Athens login. You can access this resource from our healthcare resources page . Dynamed Plus: evidence-based clinical reference tool supports patient care provides access to recommendations and guidance on hundreds of diseases and conditions includes a range of clinical calculators The content is evaluated for relevance and validity by healthcare professionals and updated on a regular basis. You can sign up to alerts, focusing on practice-changing updates if necessary. There is also a mobile app available – to download and install see our help page .

#AcWriFest18 Support for Academic Writing

November is Academic Writing Month. Keele Univeristy will be holding a writing festival, WRITEfest2018 , to celebrate writing. It includes lots of events to help staff and students develop their writing skills. If you follow twitter you can follow the hash-tag #acwrifest18 and include it in your tweets if you want to get involved. National Pathology Week 5th - 11th November 2018

National Pathology Week is The Royal College of Pathologists annual celebratory event for pathology; with the aim being to highlight the important contribution pathologists make to healthcare. Working in partnership with pathologists and laboratory scientists across the UK, their programme of events and activities aims to engage people of all ages, and improve public awareness and understanding of how pathologists and scientists diagnose disease. A little later than normal - here are the stats for how we helped you over the last quarter. We completed 55 literature searches for you. Our Inter-Library Loan team supplied 97 articles for you. 119 training sessions were delivered over the last quarter. 143 members of staff registered for an athens account so that they could access our online resources.
