Interactive cases

The New England Journal has launched a series of interactive cases . Each case presents an evolving patient history and a series of questions and exercises designed to test diagnostic and therapeutic skills. The tests are free to register for and will provide immediate feed back on your answers. Progress can be saved so you can leave it and return to carry on work at a later date. A link at the end of the case leads to a CME examination; you can claim up to 2 hours of AMA PRA Category 1 Credit™ for participating.

New England Journal of Medicine

At long last we now have online access to the New England Journal of Medicine online (http://ejournals.ebsco.com/Journal2.asp?JournalID=102417) (all articles from 1993 to present). Direct access is available via computers across Keele Campus, UHNS, and the Health Library. As a joint purchase between NHS and Keele University, you can now access offsite via an NHS Athens account. Keele Athens access is still under negotiation. Please go through either the Keele (http://sfx.exlibrisgroup.com/keele/az/) or NHS A-Z (http://www.library.nhs.uk/booksandjournals) list for access to check current availability options. Additional features of the website include a series of videos on common clinical procedures. http://click2.nejm.org/cts/click?q=137%3B67143267%3BDH0MNK1uDtUGxhYm2kKElqtKgdhlwj4NCa2esRztfNU%3D>. Some features such as the CME Exam, PowerPoint slides and PDA downloads can only be accessed through personal subscription and are not available to institutions.

New England Journal of Medicine

From June 26th 2008 there will be no electronic access to the New England Journal of Medicine via the library login. The online access was originally created in the days of the old Medical Institute. The login distributed at the time was the administration login. This is now in breech of the modern NEJM electronic licence. Continuing use of the login may result in loss in provision of both print and electronic format by the publishers. The library does not have the necessary funds to provide the site licence required to maintain electronic access and no alternate access is available via either national NHS purchases or Keele subscription. The print copy will remain available at the library for viewing. NHS staff with departmental accounts may request a print copy of the article be posted internally to the department (this is charged as an interlibrary request at £1 per article). Unfortunately as an American journal, our current copyright licence does not permit articles to be scan...
