Foodbank Collection at the Health Library

The Health Library is holding a Foodbank Collection appeal, between December and  January. If you would like to make a donation, there is a donation point in the Health Library  to deposit your item(s). The Foodbank is currently short of the following: Long Life Milk Tinned Rice Pudding Tinned Fruit Tinned Vegetables Tinned/Packet Potatoes Tinned Tuna. Pasta Sauces Biscuits Chocolates Toiletries - shampoo/shower gel/toothpaste/deodorants The Foodbank does amazing work, providing 3 days’ nutritionally balanced emergency food  and support to local people who are referred to them in crisis. It looks like the Health Library was busy before Christmas: The trainers were busy delivering 228 training sessions & inductions Our team completed 55 literature searches We supplied 131 inter-library loans 251 of our NHS staff and students registered for an Athens account

Thanks for your donations to the Foodbank Collection

Thank you to everyone who kindly donated items which will make such a difference to people in crisis this Christmas. Deposit items at the display in the library The items collected will be donated to the Newcastle-Staffs Foodbank, which is a part of the Trussell Trust. The Foodbank does amazing work, providing 3 days’ nutritionally balanced emergency food and support to local people who are referred to them in crisis. Get help finding the books you need by using our online catalogue. You could try our etutorials: Find a book on the Catalogue   Find a book on the Shelf   Did you find our etutorials helpful? Make sure you let us know by completing our survey form – we’ll enter you into our prize draw!  You could win a selection of useful stationery goods, including a memory stick, and the lucky first prize also gets a £20 voucher. Our etutorials include presentations, photo tours, video demonstrations and interactive quizzes. They are short and most only take a couple of minutes to complete. You can access them online via our website at any time. 

Access Control at the Health Library

In order to enhance security at the Health Library in the light of current changes on the hospital site, we will be implementing access control from 5:30 p.m. to closing time, and at weekends. This will start at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday 15th March. From this time you will need either: a current valid Keele card, or: an NHS Library membership card with the number starting 5081 The card should be presented to the proximity reader inside the north lobby of the CEC outside the Library’s secondary entrance. This will unlock the Library door. Please ensure that it locks securely behind you. Access control will operate between the following hours: Mon – Thu    5:30 p.m. – 9:45 p.m. Fri               5:30 p.m. – 7:45 p.m. Sat              10:00 a.m. – 4:45 p.m. Sun             1:00 p.m. – 5 p.m. ...

World Osteoporosis Day - related library stock.

World Osteoporosis Day is observed annually on 20 October , and launches a year-long campaign dedicated to raising global awareness of the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of osteoporosis and metabolic bone disease. Organized by the International Osteoporosis Foundation (IOF) every year, World Osteoporosis Day involves campaigns by national osteoporosis patient societies from around the world with activities in over 90 countries. Review of Health Library Services in England

A recent review of NHS health libraries, by Professor Peter Hill, is now available from the National Library for Health ( http://www.library.nhs.uk/aboutnlh/review ). The review highlights the importance of library centrality within the organsation and identifies the role of the library in the support of clinical decision making, lifelong learning by health professionals, research, commissioning decision and health policy making.
