Pharmaceutical Press have developed a new and improved app for the BNF (British National Formulary) and BNFc (British National Formulary for Children) . It is a single app that allows you to switch between the BNF and BNFc. Features are listed as: Offline browsing and searching of content of the BNF and BNFC The ability to switch between adult and child content Autocomplete search with navigation panes for treatment summaries, drug monographs and medicinal products Powerful interactions checker Clinical content updated every month Update notifications when a new update is available Optimised for smart phones and tablets You do not need an NHS Athens username in order to access the new app. You can learn more from the BNF & BNFc App FAQs provided by the publisher . The existing NICE BNF & BNFc app will no longer be updated and is likely to be withdrawn by the end of the year.

Are you looking for apps to help patients keep track of healthy living activities or support with long-term conditions? The NHS Choices health app library is a good place to start looking. Here you will find lists of apps reviewed by the NHS and rated by users. Types of apps listed include: Specific conditions Healthy living support Service providers Social Care Some apps are free, others are paid for or require in app purchases (ie for advanced features). Please take care to read any terms and conditions, particularly regarding use of personal data.

Patient.co.uk have now developed a small range of apps designed to support patients. screen-shot of Apps available from patient.co.uk The main Patient.co.uk app provides access to patient-focused information leaflets on a wide range of conditions and diseases. You need to simply enter the search term you are looking for in the search box and you will be offered a number of results. Results are organised into sections for Health Information, Drug Information and Professional. The Health Information section is free, however an additional purchase is required for the Drug Information and Professional sections. Note: that there appears to be a small amount of advertising in the bottom corner.

The Ebsco databases include the main healthcare databases Cinahl, Medline and PsychInfo.  Keele students can download the Ebsco databases app so that you can search on the go. To get instructions and links relevant for the app: Go to your subject page on   the Health Library website , eg Nursing Databases, Midwifery Databases or Medical Databases Click the link for the Ebsco database you usually use eg Medline or Cinahl (note that it doesn’t matter which and the app allows you to search multiple databases) Login using the Shibboleth login option if prompted, entering your Keele University computer username and password when needed. Go to the bottom of the page and click the link “iphone and android apps” This asks you to enter your email address. Enter your Keele email address and instructions will be sent to you. Ebsco have released a new App for Dynamed : Easier to install No serial number required From Ebsco: Features that meet clinician’s needs: Free App (with UHNM subscription) Access content offline Bookmark Favorites Email topics Write and save notes about particular topics Dynamed is available to our UHNM users via their NHS Athens username. Easy download instructions: 1. Download the free DynaMed App from the iTunes Store or Google Play. 2. Log in to DynaMed ( see our Healthcare Resources page ). 3. Click on the DynaMed mobile access link from DynaMed and enter your email address. The link will be located at the top toolbar.  An authentication key will be emailed to you. Select "Mobile" from the top menu bar and insert your email address 4. Open the DynaMed email from your device. 5. Within 48 hours, tap on the link in the email to authenticate the app. Note: after 48 hours, users will need to request a new authentication key. ...

The App of the month for December is NICE Guidelines. NICE provide evidence-based  guidance and advice for a wide range of conditions, diseases and public health issues. You can access the NICE guidelines via your mobile device. Download the app and you will be able to refer to any guideline off-line – helpful in meetings or discussing the latest evidence with patients. Here is our App of the Month for November. Do you know that you can access your library account and search for books using your mobile devices? It is a bit complicated – you start with the Keele University app which has a section for the libraries. This will then also direct you to the Library Anywhere app and the Catalogue. For a quick step by step guide check the help page on our website . Over the coming year we will be telling you about a number of apps that can help you to make the most of the resources we have on offer via mobile / tablet devices. Let’s start with one of your essential resources: the British National Formulary (BNF). You can access the BNF and BNF for children on your mobile phone or tablet. You can download the app for free but will need your NHS Athens username / password during the registration process. The BNF and BNFc apps allow you to: Browse and search drug reference information Access details of medicines including their uses, cautions, contra-indications, side-effects and doses Keep up-to-date with the latest prescribing information Access information without access to a network connection Bookmark favourite pages We have a short guide to the BNF app to help you get started.
