Check for Books before Click and Collect

Please check the availability of the books you want before making a Click and Collect request. We are only able to satisfy requests from the book collections at the Health Library (CEC, Royal Stoke) and Health Library at County (PGMC, Stafford). We cannot make requests from University Campus Library, nor for items that are already on loan. To check for availability: Check the location section of the book on library search. Ensure it is available at the Health Library or LERC (now Health Library at County, Stafford). Screen-shot of the Location section on Library Search

Borrow more books from the Library

Keele Undergraduates and NHS members can now borrow up to 20 items from the Library. You can find more information about your borrowing rights on our web page .  Don't forget that any items you borrow will be automatically renewed unless... the item is requested  by another member you owe the library £10 or more If you are asked to return a book you must do so within your loan period or you will incur fines.

Library Essentials for Students – Request Books

You can request that an item be saved for you. If the item is already out on loan a hold will be placed on the item and you will be added to the queue to receive it when it is returned to the library. If the item is not on loan the item will be picked off the shelf for you the next time the request list is processed by staff. You can request items Via Library Search – you will need to log in, then when you view a book’s locations you will see an option to request the item. Complete the short form and click the request button Asking a member of staff at the counter Screen-shot of the Request page You can also request that an item at the Campus Library be sent down to the Health Library for you to pick up here. Please speak to a member of staff at the Library. You will be sent an email when the item is available for you to collect – so keep an eye on your emails.

Library Essentials for Students – Automatic Renewals

The majority of users (including Keele staff and students and our NHS users) will have their loaned items renewed automatically by the library system, unless an item has been requested or your library account is in debit by £10 or more. This means that you don’t have to worry about logging on or ringing up to renew your books. However, keep an eye on your Keele email account, if another user requests the book you have on loan you will be asked to return it. If you don’t return it on time you will be fined. If you don’t need a book any more please return it so that it is available for other users.

Automatic Renewal of Library Items

The new Library Management System will now automatically renew your loaned items. How will I know? You won’t be automatically informed that your items have been renewed. However you can log in to your account to check. You will also be sent a monthly status report (via email) confirming the status of your library account and loans. If an item has not been renewed then you will be informed via email. What could stop a renewal? Your borrowed item may not be renewed if… It has been requested by another user Your account is more than £10 in deficit Your library membership is due to expire. There are a small number of membership types who are not eligible for automatic renewals.

Studying at Shrewsbury?

If you are student studying at Shrewsbury it is now even easier to avoid paying fines for books which are difficult to return. All Keele stock can be now requested via Shrewsbury Hospital Library and returned there too! No fines will accrue for the in-transit period, even if an item has been recalled! The Health Library can also accept returned items from the Shrewsbury collection, though it is best to return them prior to the end of placement. Remember to have items back at either Library before their due back date, as you will be liable to fines due on late returns.
