NHS OpenAthens Updates October 2024

 The latest NHS OpenAthens bulletin is now available on the Health Library website. New journal titles available to NHS staff

NHS staff can now access full-text of 2 new journal titles: BMJ sexual and reproductive health BMJ supportive and palliative care These titles are part of NHS core content, being purchased by HEE. You can find the titles directly from the BMJ platform, NHS Knowledge and Library Hub or via the Health Library website . Log in with your NHS OpenAthens username to read full-text articles. Contact the eresources librarian if you have any problems.

Changes to OpenAthens password policy

 I have had notification of a change to the openathens password policy ie the rules determining what password is acceptable. Rules: New minimum password length of 10 characters for users and administrators. The password must meet a minimum complexity score assessed by an industry-standard password strength checker. When does this happen? Begin July (date unspecified) - rules applied to all new accounts created. If existing accounts are amended, then users will be prompted for password change. 1st September - admin account holders will start to see prompts to change password if it does not comply with the new rules. You can defer but account will be expired if not done within the month. 1st October - user account holders will start to see prompts to change password if it does not comply with the new rules.  You can find a wealth of information from the Health Library. But how do you get access? Access the Health Library - come along to the health Library to access our book collection and use the library facilities. You’ll need to swipe with your Library card to enter , borrow books and use the print/photocopy/scanning facilities . Access NHS online resources - you need an NHS OpenAthens username and password to log in to the plethora of online resources , especially selected for NHS users. NHS OpenAthens - problem with automatic approval

We are encountering an intermittent problem with the automatic approval process for new and renewed NHS OpenAthens accounts. Accounts which are registered with an NHS-based email address should be approved automatically by the system. However it looks like some are not being approved but are being added to the "waiting" list. These accounts will be processed manually. However if you are experiencing problems do get in touch with your OpenAthens administrator. The problem has been reported. Apologies for the inconvenience.
