Diabetes Awareness Month - November 2024

  According to the charity Diabetes UK, there are 4.3 million people living with a diagnosis of diabetes in the UK.  The NHS spends approximately £10 billion a year on diabetes – almost 80% of this is spent on treating the complications. Diabetes Awareness Month takes place every November with the aim of highlighting the health challenges diabetes presents and providing help and support to those affected.    RELATED LIBRARY RESOURCES     The Health Libraries, both at the Royal Stoke and County Hospitals, offer numerous resources related to this topic. Diabetes Awareness Week - 10th to 16th June 2024

Diabetes Awareness Week 11th - 17th June 2018

Diabetes is predicted to become a huge crisis for the future health of the U.K.’s population. It is a health condition that can have a major impact on one’s life and once at an advanced stage, diabetes can cause a host of other health complications. Knowledge of the causes of diabetes is a prerequisite to reducing the risk of becoming a diabetic. Diabetes afflicts more people in the U.K. than any other serious health condition. There are 4.6 million Type 1 sufferers and an estimated 12.3 million people are potential type 2 diabetics. 2018’s campaign is seeing Diabetes UK try and create further   awareness of the condition and encouraging people to share their experiences of living with diabetes. 12th - 18th June 2016 By 2035 it is estimated that the number of people living with diabetes will rise to 535 million. Over the last two years it has led to the deaths of between 1.5 and 5.1 million people world-wide. Diabetes UK aims to care for, connect with and campaign on behalf of all people affected by and at risk of diabetes, reaching people with diabetes in local communities across the UK.  This year Diabetes Awareness Week’s theme is Setting the Record Straight and it is seeking stories from individuals living with diabetes. In doing so its goal is to raise awareness of the disease among the population of the UK in order to prevent its increase.
