Stress Awareness Month 1st – 30th April 2021

According to the Stress Management Society (SMS), Stress Awareness Month has been held every April, since 1992 to increase public awareness about both the causes and cures for our modern stress epidemic. Despite this running for 29 years we have got a long way to go. According to the Mental health Foundation 74% of UK adults have felt so stressed at some point over the last year they felt overwhelmed or unable to cope. A survey recently conducted by the SMS in partnership with  Huawei AppGallery, identified that 65% of people in the UK have felt more stressed since the COVID-19 restrictions began in March 2020.  The three key causes for concern are feelings of disconnection, uncertainty, and a worrying loss of control. One campaign running this year is ‘The 30 Day Challenge’ encourages you to pick one action each for your Physical, Mental and Emotional Wellbeing to carry out every day. Medical finalists going on final placement

If you are embarking on your final placement during April / May: You are welcome to continue to loan items from the library, but please be aware that normal loan periods will still apply. Items may be requested by another user and thus need to be returned. Late return of requested items will still incur fines. Automatic renewals will run as normal, but if you wish to try to avoid having an item potentially due for return at a time when you really cannot come in, you can attempt to renew your books early via your account on Library Search. Also all library books must be returned and any outstanding fines settled before the end of your course. Loans will not extend beyond the course end date/graduation.

Renew your Library membership

   NHS library cards for the Health Library all have an expiry date set. NHS staff will be contacted before your card expires asking you whether you wish to renew and continue your membership.  Please make sure that you respond to ensure that your membership continues. You'll be asked to check the details we have are correct - please let us know of any changes to ensure that you are still eligible for membership. If you have any queries about your membership you can email the library at health.library@keele.ac.uk - make sure you include your library card number if possible.

All NHS staff should register for their NHS OpenAthens username

NHS PCs unavailable for walk-in access Tue. 13th April 9 am - 5 pm (Royal Stoke)

For Tuesday 13th April only, the NHS PCs in the Health Library (Royal Stoke) will not be available for walk-in access between 9 am - 5 pm. After this time walk-in access should be able to resume. Apologies for any inconvenience this causes. However NHS PC walk-in access will be available throughout the day at the Health Library at County.

New Diversity and Inclusion Collection Via Kortext - for NHS staff

  As part of HEE KLS’s commitment to diversity and inclusion, a new collection of 23 e-books, selected in consultation with members of our networks, is now available to all NHS staff  via Kortext.  Please login using the institution option and selecting your NHS OpenAthens organisation: University Hospitals of North Midlands North Staffordshire Combined Healthcare Trust GPs, practice staff & CCG staff in Staffordshire (try searching for Staffordshire to find this group) Then entering you NHS OpenAthens username / password. New resource: Oxford Medicine Online (for all NHS staff)

 NHS / HEE have purchased a selection of online ebook titles from the Oxford Medicine Online collection . There are over 130 titles all together, including: Emergencies in... series Oxford Handbooks in Nursing Oxford Medical Handbooks Oxford Textbooks in... series Oxford Textbook of Medicine These are authoritative texts which include key information, guidance and recommendations on a wide range of specialties. Now available online so you don't have to wait in line for a print version. To access: All these titles are available to NHS staff via your NHS OpenAthens username.
