Wiley Online and Cochrane Library maintenance 7th Dec 2013

We have received the following notification regarding expected maintenance to Wiley Online and the Cochrane Library: Event Title: Wiley Online Library Release & The Cochrane Library Scheduled Maintenance Downtime December 2013 Date : Saturday 7th December 2013 Time:  10:00 am UK Duration: 5 hours (approximate). How it will effect users: The Cochrane Home page will be available but reviews and search functionality will be unavailable. Is there a workaround: There will be no workaround When can users expect will it be backup: The expectation is for the systems to be back up at approximately 15:00 (UK) Saturday 7th December. NICE Evidence Search is a healthcare specialist search engine. It will allow you to search across a wide range of accredited resources that have been approved by NICE Evidence. Thus you can be confident that the results you find will be of good quality. The results screen includes topic guides, if available, as well as your search results. You can also use the filters to focus your results more. Filters include: Area of interest Types of information Type of Clinical Query Sources Medicines & Devices Published Date Screen-shot of results from a simple search The results will often link to the full-text. Update to Medicines Complete Login Screen

Medicines Complete have updated their home page and login screen. The home page now looks like this: Screen-shot of Medicines Complete home page To login you will need to click the “ Sign in ” link on the right-hand-side. Clinical Effectiveness Bulletin No. 81 October 2013

50 Resources for Healthcare: 47. Google Scholar

Google Scholar is an online search engine that limits its search to scholarly literature that is in the public domain. It searches across a wide range of subject areas. You can reach the advanced search options by clicking the down arrow on the search box. The advanced options allow you to include limits for an author, journal and date range as well as allowing you to include combinations of search terms. Google scholar is helpful for trying to find particular articles where you don’t have the complete reference and for searching for open access articles. However remember to check our journal A-Z lists to see whether we have a subscription for the full-text and which collection it will be available in. You can search for jobs using the simple text box or try the advanced search options to limit your search to particular employers, staff group or location. When you register you can set up alerts so that you are notified when new jobs are posted, apply for posts online and save your application forms.

Getting Full-text Articles

Have you been pulling your hair out trying to get to the full-text of the articles that you have found? Everything not quite as freely available on Google as you thought? Here are a few hints and tips to getting your hands on the articles you need. Know your reference You need to know as many the bibliographic details about the article as you can find. Just the article title won’t be enough, so make sure you know: Where it was published – the Journal title When it was published – the I ssue it was published in; this will include the Year it was published, also possibly the Volume and Issue N umber , sometimes also a Date .
