50 Resources for Healthcare: 10. Get the latest journal articles via our Current Awareness Service

Would you like to get the latest headlines and table of contents from your subject specific journals? You can sign up to receive email updates from our CurrentAwareness Service .  You only get an email when new articles are published. You can link through to the online articles that we subscribe to. It is simple to unsubscribe if you don’t like it. We have a range of subject topics available. If you can’t see the subject you need then get in touch with our eresourceslibrarian and we can set one up for you. Here is an overview of the service: Our service uses Netvibes and Feedburner, however you don’t have to join these to use the service. Why not try it? We have more information to help you to keep up-to-date; check out our CurrentAwareness page or see our online guides for help setting up alerts, using RSS feeds and trying social networking.

Keep up-to-date with Medical News

I have updated our Medical News current awareness page to include links and feeds from our current ejournal subscriptions: British Journal of Medicine The Lancet New England Journal of Medicine As well as from BMA blog Royal College of General Practitioners news feed You can sign-up to receive the latest journal articles and news from the BMA and RCGP in your email inbox. Unfortunately I have had to remove the link to JAMA until we can get a current subscription sorted out. We have more help on keeping up-to-date with healthcare news on our website.

Keep up-to-date with Child Health News

We have a new current awareness page to keep you up-to-date with the latest published research in paediatrics and child health. Journals monitored include: Acta Paediatrics (NHS) Child Pediatrics (NHS) Developmental Medicine & Child Neurology (NHS) Pediatrics (NHS) Academic Pediatrics (Keele University) Clinical Pediatric Emergency Medicine (Keele University) You can sign-up to receive updates in your email inbox.  You can find out more about our Current Awareness Service via this video. 50 Resources for Healthcare: 1. Get the latest health library news

Over the next year I’m going to tell you about different resources that are available to help you to find health-related information to support your studies and work. I’m aiming for 1 item per week so we should be done just before Christmas. If I miss a week do let me know. So the first resource is the Health Library blog – you’re reading it now. We use the blog to tell you all about the latest news at the library. Here you can find out about any changes to our facilities and services such as changes to opening times, printing procedures, expected maintenance and so on. We also let you know about any new resources that we purchase, such as books, journals and databases, and promote our current resources. There are lots of extra features on the blog. The current awareness pages have been re-vamped to help you to find the information you need. You can now find resources to help you to keep up-to-date with: Current news —such as issues affecting the NHS and its services Professional news —latest developments & guidance affecting your profession Research news —in-depth awareness of research in your study / work area You will also find help to learn how to set up database alerts, where to go to find bulletins and the latest guidance, and how to use social networking tools such as twitter, blogging and RSS feeds.
