News from NICE  "NICE would like to invite you to contribute to an important research project to understand views and experiences of NICE, looking at how we operate, our work and resources and our strategic ambitions.  We want to ensure that all of our users and audiences are represented in the research. App of the Month – NICE Guidelines

The App of the month for December is NICE Guidelines. NICE provide evidence-based  guidance and advice for a wide range of conditions, diseases and public health issues. You can access the NICE guidelines via your mobile device. Download the app and you will be able to refer to any guideline off-line – helpful in meetings or discussing the latest evidence with patients. For a quick step by step guide check the help page on our website. NHS Athens access problems

There appear to be on-going problems accessing NHS-subscribed resources using NHS Athens usernames / passwords. Access seems to be patchy and is affecting access to databases, ejournals and ebooks. We have informed both NICE (main supplier of databases) and Eduserv / Athens. Please report any problems that you are having so that we can escalate the issue.

NICE Evidence Search is a healthcare specialist search engine. It will allow you to search across a wide range of accredited resources that have been approved by NICE Evidence. Thus you can be confident that the results you find will be of good quality. The results screen includes topic guides, if available, as well as your search results. You can also use the filters to focus your results more. Filters include: Area of interest Types of information Type of Clinical Query Sources Medicines & Devices Published Date Screen-shot of results from a simple search The results will often link to the full-text. Updated & Improved Healthcare Resources page

The Healthcare Resources page for our NHS users has been updated to help you to find the type of information you need quickly. The resources are split up under a number of headings and new resources have been included: NICE Resources NICE have developed a new range of different resources: NHS Evidence is now called Evidence Search Clinical Knowledge Summaries Medicines Information and awareness service Evidence Updates NHS Athens Resources The links for the NHS Athens tools, such as ejournals, ebooks and databases have been improved. NHS Athens Help There is a new section where you can find links to all our Athens help resources such as the online guide and etutorial. 50 Resources for Healthcare: 3. NICE

NICE is the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence. It is a government agency responsible for publishing guidelines relating to health and social care in the UK to ensure that professionals have access to authoritative, evidence-based guidance. NICE provides guidance on a range of conditions and diseases, treatments, procedures and devices as well as support for public health and NHS commissioning. The guidelines may be available in a range of formats including brief summaries, patient-focused guidance, as well as the full and comprehensives guideline including the search strategy and full bibliography. You can browse through the various options or use the simple search facility to find guidelines relevant to your search topic. You can then use the filter options to narrow your search. You can also access NICE guidelines on the go via the mobile app .

BNF smartphone app

You can now access the British National Formulary (BNF) via your smartphone. The NICE BNF app is available for android and iphone devices; and is free for health and social care professionals who work for or who are contracted by NHS England.
