W is for wellbeing

Make sure you look after yourselves. The library can play a part. Evidence supports the value of reading to improve health and wellbeing, so we have introduced a collection of books based on the Reading Agency’s Reading Well and Mood-boosting books. Take a look at our Reading Well collection . You can browse the collection online or thumb through books in the library. Books are available on standard loan. This collection is gathered together and shelved by the main doors. You’ll find texts on self help, inspirational stories or just something for a bit of a laugh.

V is for visit us

Why not come along and visit us? We are located on the ground floor, in the Clinical Education Centre, at the Royal Stoke University Hospital. Here are some instructions on how to get here, along with a Google Street map view. We’re in the really distinctive round building you can see from the A34. The library is usually a quiet place to study or catch up on some paperwork. You can use the silent study room if you need. We also have NHS and Keele networked computers, as well as provision for photocopying, scanning and printing. T is for Training

Get expert help from our training team so that you get great quality evidence and make the most of our resources. We have a range of Training opportunities to help you to get to grips with services and resources on offer at the Health Library. Most training is currently being delivered remotely online. Keele University Students Medicine, midwifery and nursing students can book training to help them to develop their information skills and get the best evidence for their assignments and dissertation. Scheduled courses are delivered as part of the Keele “In a nutshell…” series. Sign-up for a scheduled course or arrange a 1-to-1 session with our training team.  Improve your skills to get good marks, produce a good dissertation, complete your research project and write academically. Make the most of our collections to develop your study skills. Check out our special Study Skills collection . Here you’ll find books – both in print and as ebooks – to help you to: Manage your study time Develop your writing skills Make better notes Plan your dissertation Develop critical thinking skills Present your work Use the Search option to look for a particular study skills topic You can access some titles online – check whether the ebook is available for your user group (Keele or NHS) and login with either your Keele login details or your NHS OpenAthens username. You can request a title from campus library and pick it up at the Health Library.

 If you need a quiet spot to revise, need to concentrate on a report or want somewhere to gather your thoughts, come along to our quiet study area. Complete our photo tour – Using the Health Library – to check what facilities are available in the Library. Remember to check our opening hours if you are planning to visit.

P is for Patient Voices

  Do you listen to your patients? Do you get the complete view? We’ve developed our Patient Voices collection to give you a different perspective. How have patients coped with covid? What is the impact of disability on a family? How do people cope with a cancer diagnosis? Read patient stories to learn more. Browse through the Patient Voices collection online or in the Library.

O is for opening hours

  Need to visit the Health Library? We’re open 7 days a week. At the moment we’re operating under covid-19 restrictions . So, we are asking you to enter via the side-entrance using your library card to swipe yourself in. Then exit via the main entrance into the CEC foyer. Check our opening hours before you visit.   Looking for a book at the Library? We have a healthcare specialist collection at the Health Library.  Search on  Library Search  for items on your topic / specialty Library Search is the main catalogue of all our print book collection. It also offers different collections of eresources depending on which user group you are in. NHS staff library members You can search Library Search for books and ebooks. The collection includes books from the Health Library, Campus Library and the Health Library at County. Library members can borrow items from any of these collections. You just need to place a request (on Library Search) and indicate where you want to pick it up. We’ll make the transfer and let you know when you can come in to collect it. Some of the ebook collections, particularly healthcare related, are also available to NHS staff. Look out for the NHS OpenAthens link in the ebook online access details.
