Eating Disorders Awareness Week

23rd February - 1st March 2015 Eating disorders can be characterised by an abnormal and unhealthy attitude towards food which can cause an individual to change their eating habits and behaviour.  An individual with an eating disorder may focus unduly on their weight or body shape which can then lead them towards making food choices that can be damaging to their health.  There are several types of eating disorder such as bulimia and anorexia nervosa which manifest themselves in different ways.  The causes are often put down to social pressure to fit a certain stereotypical body image.  However, the reality is that the underlying causes can be far more complex.  B-eat (Beat eating disorders), is an organisation that aims to try and change the way eating disorders are viewed and improve the services provided to those suffering from an eating disorder.  Between February 23 rd and March 1 st 2015 B-eat are leading a whole week of events in order to raise awareness and help achieve th

App of the Month – Dynamed: NEW APP

Ebsco have released a new App for Dynamed : Easier to install No serial number required From Ebsco: Features that meet clinician’s needs: Free App (with UHNM subscription) Access content offline Bookmark Favorites Email topics Write and save notes about particular topics Dynamed is available to our UHNM users via their NHS Athens username. Easy download instructions: 1. Download the free DynaMed App from the iTunes Store or Google Play. 2. Log in to DynaMed ( see our Healthcare Resources page ). 3. Click on the DynaMed mobile access link from DynaMed and enter your email address. The link will be located at the top toolbar.  An authentication key will be emailed to you. Select "Mobile" from the top menu bar and insert your email address 4. Open the DynaMed email from your device. 5. Within 48 hours, tap on the link in the email to authenticate the app. Note: after 48 hours, users will need to request a new authentication key.

New Journal Titles at Ovid for NHS Users

We have subscribed to a range of ejournals via the Ovid Journals database. New titles at Ovid include: American Journal of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine Anaesthesia British Journal of Haematology Cancer Cancer Cytopathology Current Opinion in Hematology Current Opinion in Oncology Developmental Medicine & Child Neurology International Journal of Clinical Practice Journal of Child Psychology and Psychiatry Journal of Family Therapy Medicine & Science in Sports & Exercise   Some of these titles have been moved to Ovid from other platforms. We hope that this will improve access. Changes to NHS EED and DARE

NIHR funding to produce DARE (Database of Abstracts of Reviews of Effects) and NHS EED (NHS Economic Evaluation Database) ceases at the end of March 2015. However, both databases can still be accessed via the CRD website. Bibliographic records will be published on DARE and NHS EED until 31st March 2015. The HTA database will continue to be produced by CRD for the foreseeable future.

NHS Athens Problems Resolved

We have been informed that the problems using the NHS Athens registration form have now been resolved. You should be able to: Register for an NHS Athens username online Renew your account when you receive the renewal email Reset your own password if you have forgotten it. Saved Searches will be Lost – NHS Users

From the 1 st of April the provision of the Medline and PsychInfo databases, as part of the NHS Core Content, will be delivered via ProQuest and not Ovid. Changes will be made to the NHS HDAS interface to run searches on these 2 databases via ProQuest instead of Ovid. As a consequence of these changes, any searches (and associated alerts) saved within HDAS by users, which use these databases or search across databases, will be lost. You are advised to export your search information in order to retain it. You can then re-create the search, and alert, when the new interface is implemented. If you use the Ovid interface directly to save searches, and set up alerts, on Medline or PsychInfo you will also lose access to your saved searches.
