App of the Month – Patient.co.uk

Patient.co.uk have now developed a small range of apps designed to support patients. screen-shot of Apps available from patient.co.uk The main Patient.co.uk app provides access to patient-focused information leaflets on a wide range of conditions and diseases. You need to simply enter the search term you are looking for in the search box and you will be offered a number of results. Results are organised into sections for Health Information, Drug Information and Professional. The Health Information section is free, however an additional purchase is required for the Drug Information and Professional sections. Note: that there appears to be a small amount of advertising in the bottom corner.

New Keele IT Conditions of Use

Keele University have revised their IT Conditions of Use . These apply to all Keele University staff and students as well as any of our NHS users who use the Walk-in Access at the Health Library – ie a temporary Keele network username / password. There is also a set of guidelines which can help you. All users of the Keele network should take the time to familiarise themselves with the new requirements.

No access to NHS Core Content eBooks

Our NHS users will no longer be able to access the NHS Core Content ebook collection. This collection was not being maintained and many of the titles are now quite old. NHS users can access the ebook collection provided by the Health Library by searching for titles on the library catalogue . You will need to use your NHS Athens username / password to access the full-text - click the link provided on the catalogue. We have set up a number of small collections to help you to get started with ebooks – you can find them on our ebooks page . Our etutorial Using eBooks will help you to get to grips using ebooks.

NHS HDAS Databases Switch- help using databases

The anticipated switch from Ovid to Proquest for Medline and PsychInfo has now occurred. Using HDAS to search Medline and PsychInfo will now refer searches via Proquest and includes some limitations. See document “HDAS Database Changes – Fields available” on our Journal Problems & Fixes page . To avoid these limitations you may wish to prefer to search via the Proquest interface. You can find a direct link to the Proquest database in our section “ Direct Database Login ”.
