Ebsco is changing for NHS users. Act now to save your content!

Ebsco is changing the interface for its databases, such as Cinahl and Medline. These databases are used for running literature searches. The platform for ebsco databases is also called ebscohost. The change is expected to take place on the 14 th July. Have you saved searches or search alerts? You will need to act to avoid losing things you have saved. Why is EBSCOhost changing? There has been little change to EBSCO databases over a number of years.   EBSCO say the new version will offer an enhanced experience and allow the addition of new features. What isn’t changing? Your access to EBSCO databases will continue to be via the Health library website and your existing NHS OpenAthens login.   The account you use to save things (My EBSCO) will be retained although some content will be lost if you do not act. What do I need to do?   Will I lose my saved searches? If you do not use EBSCOhost or ebsco databases then no action is required. If you do use EBSCOhos...

App for Searching Ebsco Databases

Since we now have wifi for Keele users at the Health Library I thought that you might be interested in the Ebscohost app which allows you to search our main Keele-based healthcare databases such as Medline and Cinahl. Thanks to a student for bringing this to my attention. I have been able to set this up for an Android device, so I’m guessing that the iphone app will be very similar. To get instructions and links relevant for the app: Go to your subject page on the Health Library website , eg Nursing Databases, Midwifery Databases or Medical Databases Click the link for the Ebsco database you usually use eg Medline or Cinahl (note that it doesn’t matter which and the app allows you to search multiple databases) Login using the Shibboleth login option if prompted, entering your Keele University computer username and password when needed. Go to the bottom of the page and click the link “iphone and android apps” This asks you to enter your email address. Enter your Keele email addres...

Issues accessing Ebsco databases – includes Cinahl & Medline

We have noticed an issue when trying to access ebsco ejournal titles from the A-Z lists – both for Keele University and NHS ejournal lists. It seems to be a particular issue if you have logged into NHS Athens but then go to access some Keele journals. If you get an error after clicking the ebsco link for a journal title you can still access the full-text by logging on to the database link instead. The database links can be found on our website at: Nursing Databases (Keele) – click the Cinahl or Medline or Psychinfo link Midwifery Databases (Keele) – click the Cinahl or Medline or Psychinfo link Medical Databases (Keele) – click the Cinahl or Medline or Psychinfo link Healthcare Resources (NHS) – click the HDAS link We have reported the error to our suppliers and apologies for any inconvenience.

Problems accessing Ebsco eJournal Titles for NHS users

We have been experiencing problems accessing NHS ejournal titles that are available via the Ebsco databases such as Cinahl, Medline with full-text etc. This appears to affect in particular users trying to access these titles from the Keele computer network. The problem has been reported to Ebsco and we hope that they have a solution soon. Apologies for all the inconvenience caused.

NHS Athens access to Medline with full-text restored

Our suppliers have corrected the problem we were having with some access to Ebsco Medline with full-text. Our NHS Athens users should now be able to access ejournal titles within this database. This subscription covers our main 4 Athens groups which includes: Staffordshire Clinical Commissioning Groups North Staffs Combined Healthcare NHS Trust Staffordshire and Stoke on Trent Partnership: North University Hospital of North Staffordshire Apologies for any inconvenience caused while this problem has been sorted out.

RefWorks update

Edit: This issue has now been resolved At present there appears to be an issue with exporting references from the Ebsco databases to RefWorks. Both companies are aware of the issue and are currently working to resolve the matter. No further problems exist to accessing either the Databases or RefWorks. Edit: This issue is affecting all Ebsco folders and not just the Keele link to RefWorks.

New look for Ebsco

Any Keele students or staff using the Ebsco health care databases may notice some changes! The screen has a cleaner fresher look, quick hover over display of article abstracts, share your results via Facebook, MySpace, Del.icio.us etc, choose your favourite citation styles to display (unfortunately Harvard isn't in there), quickly add related reference to your saved folder (now more visible and easier to manage) and much, much more. We will be updating our training materials, so why not come along to one of our Wednesday afternoon training sessions or ask at the help desk for a guided tour. For further information please contact Mariet Schepers on (01782) 556583.

Ebsco A-Z

Attention all Keele Students! Currently there is a problem with accessing journals through the Ebsco A-Z list. We are working to resolve this issue as soon as possible. All journals should still be accessible by logging into MyAthens ( http:// auth.athensams.net/my/ ) and checking under the journal provider. Most University journal subscriptions will be located under Science Direct and Blackwell Synergy . Please contact the library if you have any queries or problems.
