Library Account Password Security Changes - You may need to reset your password.

This information affects NHS, SCONUL and Alumni members. If you have a library card for the Health Library at Royal Stoke or the Library, Education and Resource Centre at County Hospital you will have set up a password for an online library account, which you access through the library catalogue  Library Search . This is used to login to your account to view your book loans, renew items and place requests on items.  The system which manages the login details is changing to increase security. Please be aware if you have a password that is fewer than 8 characters you will find that from January 2020 that you will not be able to log in to Library Search. Also any members who have  not logged into their library account at all during 2019 will also find their password will not work. To avoid this - please  login to your account at least once in 2019, and if needed reset your Library Search password to meet the new security criteria. If you have not logged in or res

IT disruption 19th & 20th December 2019

KCOM (for UHNM IT) are undertaking maintenance on the network in the CEC on 19th and 20th Dec between 8 am and 12 noon. At some point for a couple of minutes: each PC [staff and customer, NHS & Keele] will lose network connection each phone, including ongoing calls, will cut out and reboot self-service unit will be affected Health Library till will be affected We apologise for any inconvenience caused.

Foodbank Collection at the Health Library

The Health Library is holding a Foodbank Collection appeal, between December and  January. If you would like to make a donation, there is a donation point in the Health Library  to deposit your item(s). The Foodbank is currently short of the following: Long Life Milk Tinned Rice Pudding Tinned Fruit Tinned Vegetables Tinned/Packet Potatoes Tinned Tuna. Pasta Sauces Biscuits Chocolates Toiletries - shampoo/shower gel/toothpaste/deodorants The Foodbank does amazing work, providing 3 days’ nutritionally balanced emergency food  and support to local people who are referred to them in crisis. National Grief Awareness Week 2nd – 8th December 2019

Most people experience grief when they lose something or someone important to them. Therefore, National Grief Awareness Week is used as a tool for raising awareness of all aspects of grief and loss on a national scale. Campaigns such as this have been created in the hope of offering access to a choice of tailored bereavement support to all those grieving in the UK and to those working with the bereaved; as well as to ensure immediate access to support for all types of bereavement in local communities across the country. This is used to login to your account to view your book loans, renew items and place requests on items.  The system which manages the login details is changing to increase security. Please be aware if you have a password that is fewer than 8 characters you will find that from January 2020 that you will not be able to log in to Library Search. There will be reduced opening hours at the Health Library over the Christmas period. Students on Electives or placement (Medicine, Nursing or Midwifery) - no change to library loan rules.

If you are embarking on an elective or placement during November / December / January: You are welcome to continue to loan items from the library, but please be aware that normal loan periods will still apply. Items may be requested by another user and recalled. Late return of requested items will still incur fines. Automatic renewals will run as normal, but if you wish to try to avoid having an item potentially due for return at a time when you really cannot come in, you can attempt to renew your books early via your account on Library Search.

Alcohol Awareness Week - 11-17 November 2019

Alcohol awareness week is coordinated by the Alcohol Change UK. Over 1,700 public health teams, workplaces, GP surgeries, pharmacies, hospitals, charities and other community groups across the country took part in and organised events for the 2018 campaign. Baby Loss Awareness Week 9th - 15th October 2019

The death of a baby is not a rare event. It can happen to anyone. Every year, thousands of people in the UK are affected by the death of a baby or experience pregnancy loss. The Baby Loss Awareness Week is an opportunity for parents, their families and friends to acknowledge and remember their precious babies who have died. It is led by Sands (Stillborn and Neonatal death charity) in collaboration with 70 charities in the UK. Throughout the week bereaved parents, their families and friends, unite with each other and others across the world to commemorate the lives of babies who died during pregnancy, at or soon after birth and in infancy. Baby Loss Awareness Week is also a platform to call for tangible improvements in research, care and policy around bereavement support and highlights bereavement support and services available for anyone affected by the death of a baby at any stage.
