A selection of the examples have been highly recommended as potential high impact changes, these can be found under the Recommended section .

Clinical Query Answering Service

This week the library has launched a new clinical query answering service. The service offers more in-depth literature searching, including a summary of information found and some indication of the level of evidence (e.g. if the studies are randomized controlled trials or systematic reviews). The service is aimed at departments or teams of health care professionals (not just doctors) who work together and want answers to questions that arise during the every day care of their patients Initially the service is running as a pilot with 4 specific teams in the University Hospital until June 2010 when an assessment will be made. Initially they will be conducting pieces of research to test the usability of the service, to find out about people’s expectations and experiences of the service, general user feedback and research answering specific questions about the service. If you have provided your details they may contact you to see if you would like to take part in the research project. New catalogue features

The library catalogue has had another series of improvement added. Now if the book isn't available, you can hit the show similar items buttons for further suggestions. Click on the picture of the book to view the table of contents or read reviews of the book. Whne you click on a book title, to view it's availability, check at the bottom of the page for a selected list of similar titles ( click here to view example record) or if the item is available in a different format e.g. newer edition or as a CD ROM. Other new features include the tag cloud. This is a new way of searching the catalogue. Is intute more intuitive?

Intute is an evaluated gateway for many different resources including Medicine and Nursing, midwivery and allied health . This means that it is a search engine which will search a limited number of websites where all information has been carefully evaluated prior to inclusion on the website. Essentially it is the same as searching Google, but will only return a small number of high quality results. It also has the added advantage that you can browse by the same thesaurus headings used by Medline or the Royal College of Nursing. This week sees a revamp of the website to a new cleaner interface, providing you with the latest articles added and free personal login which allows you to save searches. The virtual training suite offers a selection of very short online tutorials to help you learn to navigate the web by creating your own shopping cart of bookmarks, advice on evaluating online information and tips on how to search. Areas of focus include allied health , dentistry and oral h...
