 Members of the Health Library at the CEC (Royal Stoke University Hospital) can also use the Health Library at County (Stafford) . Why not pop down to take a look at the library during their open day 9th June. The library has undergone a recent refurbishment and staff will be on-hand to let you know all about the facilities and services. The Health Library at County is located in the Postgraduate Education Centre in the Old Chapel, at County Hospital, Stafford.

The Health Library will be closed for the Jubilee bank holidays 2nd & 3rd June (2022) to celebrate the Queen's platinum jubilee. Online resources are available via the Health Library website .

Ehlers-Danlos syndromes (EDS) are a group of rare inherited conditions that affect connective tissue. Connective tissues provide support in skin, tendons, ligaments, blood vessels, internal organs and bones. The Ehlers-Danlos syndromes are currently classified into thirteen types. In all but the hypermobile subtype (hEDS) genetics variants have been identified as the cause for the disorder and are part of the diagnostic criteria. Hypermobile Ehlers-Danlos syndrome (hEDS), which used to be known as the hypermobility type or type 3, is thought to be the most common genetic connective tissue disorder. EDS affects people in different ways. Some people experience the condition on a mild basis, while for some the symptoms are disabling.   Virtual wellbeing week is being run 25th April to 1st May . It is aimed at healthcare staff and encourages you to take a moment to recognise, reflect and reconnect. We'd encourage you to take a look at our Reading Well book collection - this is especially created with mood enhancing and self-help books.  If you are embarking on your final placement in April / May: You are welcome to continue to loan items from the library, but please be aware that normal loan periods will still apply. Items may be requested by another user and thus need to be returned. Late return of requested items will still incur fines. Automatic renewals will run as normal, but if you wish to try to avoid having an item potentially due for return at a time when you really cannot come in, you can attempt to renew your books early via your account on Library Search. Also all library books must be returned and any outstanding fines settled before the end of your course. Loans will not extend beyond the course end date/graduation.

  Bowel cancer is a general term for cancer that begins in the large bowel. Depending on where the cancer starts, bowel cancer can also be referred to as colon or rectal cancer. Bowel cancer is the fourth most common cancer in the UK and the second biggest cancer killer. Nearly 43,000 people are diagnosed with bowel cancer every year in the UK. The 3 main symptoms of bowel cancer are: persistent blood in your poo – that happens for no obvious reason or is associated with a change in bowel habit a persistent change in your bowel habit – which is usually having to poo more and your poo may also become more runny persistent lower abdominal (tummy) pain, bloating or discomfort – that's always caused by eating and may be associated with loss of appetite or significant unintentional weight loss In order to raise awareness for Bowel Cancer, the team at Bowel Cancer UK are using 2022’s campaign to bring everyone together; as they believe that together we can save more lives. ...
