 Your NHS OpenAthens username gives you access to some great resources, specially selected to help you in your work and career development. These resources are not freely available on the Internet but you can get easy access with your NHS OpenAthens username.

  • Clinical Key [UHNM only]  – articles, clinical summaries and ebooks; accessible via an easy to use clinical search engine
  • Oxford Medicine Online – great set of renowned online handbooks, providing information for all healthcare professions

  • HDAS (including Medline, Amed, CINAHL, PsychInfo, Emcare and Embase) –the HDAS interface offers a comprehensive set of features to allow you to search key healthcare databases

  • Library Search – search our library catalogue for thousands of key online titles to help you to study and work
  • NHS A-Z Journals List – check our journals list for the full-text of journals and research articles

  • BMJ Best Practice – you can print or download easy to read patient leaflets for a wide range of conditions and diseases
  • Clinical Key [UHNM only] – a wide range of leaflets are available. You can also select a different language (ie other than English), add extra comments or information, add your own contact details (or department details) and change the font size to suit your patient.

  • Library Search – we have gathered together a collection of books to support revision for medical exams. You can find this on Library Search. Online books are also listed, accessible via your OpenAthens username.

NHS resources are changing from the 30th June 2025

  A range of our resources for NHS customers are purchased by NHS England as a national Core Content offering. At the end of June 2025, the content of the core collection is changing.  You may find some resources are no longer available to you. Specifically affected are the Oxford Handbooks e-books and access to a range of ProQuest databases.   Oxford Handbooks: Some Oxford Handbooks are being replaced by locally purchased e-book access. We also have a range of Oxford Handbooks available in print from the health libraries. To find our local resources - in the NHS Knowledge and Libraries Hub search for Oxford Handbook. Then select the limiter 'Library Catalogue only'. Limiters are located on the left hand side of the screen. Both local e-books and print books will then show in the results.
