  Walk-in access to the Health Library resumes on Monday 17 th August.   Library opening times will be Monday – Friday 9 am – 4.30 pm.   An appointment to collect books or to use NHS PCs is no longer required   Available services : book browsing, loans and returns, inter-library loans, study spaces and a limited number of NHS PCs due to social distancing. Logins to use the Eduroam wifi on your own device can also be issued. Until advised by Keele University, the IT Suite and Keele networked PCs remain unavailable. The book bin in the CEC exit porch will be available for returned items between Monday – Friday 8.00 am – 5pm.   Entry to the library will be via the wooden doors so ensure you have your library card as you will need to swipe in. (Those without a valid library card will need to use the intercom and sign in). We are encountering an intermittent problem with the automatic approval process for new and renewed NHS OpenAthens accounts. Accounts which are registered with an NHS-based email address should be approved automatically by the system. However it looks like some are not being approved but are being added to the "waiting" list. These accounts will be processed manually. However if you are experiencing problems do get in touch with your OpenAthens administrator. The problem has been reported. Apologies for the inconvenience.

You can now find online books to support your medical exams. We have added a sub-collection to the Medical Exam Revision collection on Library Search. You can now browse through the titles available online. Go to the Medical Exam Revision collection and select the sub-collection. Medical Exam Revision Collection Please check the availability of the title for Keele or NHS users. You will need to log on with either your Keele computer details or your NHS OpenAthens username.

From Monday 3rd August some of the NHS PCs in the library will be available on an appointment basis. These are on the NHS network, so you’ll need your NHS log-in to use them. PC sessions will be available Monday – Friday between 9 am and 4 pm. Black and white printing will be available. To book a PC session, email health.library@keele.ac.uk with your preferred time/date, NHS email address and library card number (if you have one). Your booking is not accepted until you receive a confirmation email from the library team. You may book 30-minute slots up to a maximum of 2 hours in any one session. The IT Suite, Keele networked computers, study spaces and book browsing remain unavailable at this time.

Unfortunately, one of our main ebook suppliers, Dawsonera, has gone into administration. This means Dawsonera ebook content will have to be transferred (where possible) to a new supplier: VLeBooks. The Dawsonera ebook platform will cease to function on 31st July and we would like to urge everyone to download any annotations or references that you want to keep as soon as possible as these are not able to be transferred across. There may also be a short period of disruption to the content while VLeBooks activate all the content on the new platform and we apologise for any inconvenience this may cause. Unfortunately, we may not be able to carry over access to titles for NHS users and some titles will become “Keele only”. Please check the availability of the books you want before making a Click and Collect request. We are only able to satisfy requests from the book collections at the Health Library (CEC, Royal Stoke) and Health Library at County (PGMC, Stafford). You can develop your own skills to help you to find good quality healthcare information. And the Library can help you too! The Health Library is now offering a "Click & Collect" service, starting Wednesday 1st July. This is available Monday to Friday, by appointment only . You will be able to request books and collect at an agreed time. To book a click and collect slot: Find your books  - Search on the catalogue  Library Search  for the books that you want Make a request  - Send an email to the Health Library account  health.library@keele.ac.uk  including the following details: your name, library card number, details of the books required and a contact phone number. Receive your pick-up slot  - You will be contacted to arrange a pick-up day / time. Collect your books  - Follow the instructions to gain access to pick up your items. Please try to be prompt. You can find the latest issues on our website, along with a host of useful resources providing you with everything from public information, reviews and training to statistics. We have a whole range of services and resources that you can still access without visiting the library. Books We have ebook versions of many of our most popular texts. You can search on Library Search for the title you need or just enter your keywords if you are looking for a particular topic. To access the full-text you will need to use the link provided – either for NHS or Keele. Then you will be prompted to log in with either your NHS OpenAthens username or your Keele computer login details. Early cervical cancers and pre-cancerous cell changes don't usually have symptoms. Not everyone diagnosed with cervical cancer will have symptoms, that's why it's important to attend regular cervical screening. The most common symptoms of cervical cancer include: unusual vaginal bleeding pain or discomfort during sex vaginal discharge pain in the area between the hip bones (pelvis) Cervical screening is a way of preventing cancer. It tests for a virus called high risk human papilloma virus (HPV). High risk HPV can cause cervical cells to become abnormal. Most cases of cervical cancer are linked to high risk HPV. The cervix is part of the female reproductive system. It is the lowest part of the womb and is at the top of the vagina. A nurse takes a sample of cells from the cervix using a small soft brush (smear test) and sends the sample to the laboratory. Diabetes is a serious condition where your blood glucose level is too high. There are two main types, Type 1 and Type 2. They’re different conditions, but they’re both serious. There are 2 main types of diabetes: Type 1 diabetes – where the body's immune system attacks and destroys the cells that produce insulin Type 2 diabetes – where the body does not produce enough insulin, or the body's cells do not react to insulin. Type 2 diabetes is far more common than type 1. In the UK, around 90% of all adults with diabetes have type 2. During pregnancy, some women have such high levels of blood glucose that their body is unable to produce enough insulin to absorb it all - this is known as gestational diabetes.   One in 15 of us live with diabetes.
