The App of the month for December is NICE Guidelines. NICE provide evidence-based  guidance and advice for a wide range of conditions, diseases and public health issues. You can access the NICE guidelines via your mobile device. Download the app and you will be able to refer to any guideline off-line – helpful in meetings or discussing the latest evidence with patients. Of course there is a lot of information available via the Internet – perhaps too much? Is it good quality? If you feel a little overwhelmed we can start you off with a few good quality resources. Our Finding Information on the Internet etutorial will give you a few pointers to look out for and lists a number of resources that it is always worth checking. Our Literature Searching Sites web page gives you a pretty comprehensive list of some good quality information sources that might be useful during your studies and career. Whether you are searching for articles, trying to find reviews or looking for guidelines this is a good place to start.

Databases hold bibliographic information about articles related to particular topics. They offer you a number of search tools to help you to find articles that match the topic you are looking for. We subscribe to a number of health-specific databases that can help you to focus your search and find the information you need effectively. Getting to grips with these resources can take a bit of time but it is worth it in the end. 19th November 2014 Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disorder or COPD, is a term that encompasses a number of differing conditions such as emphysema and chronic bronchitis.  It is one of the most common respiratory diseases and at present is thought there are as many as three million people living with the disease in the UK. 14th November 2014 Diabetes is a chronic disease that occurs when the pancreas fails to produce insulin or the body has trouble processing the insulin the pancreas does produce.  Whilst the disease can be managed those that suffer from diabetes are at increased risk of developing a number of serious health issues.  It is estimated that the number of people living with diabetes will rise to 535 million. The mission of the International Diabetes Federation is to promote diabetes care, prevention and the development of a cure.  World Diabetes Day is celebrated every year on the 14 th November.  It brings together millions of people across the world in order to promote the core aims of the International Diabetes Federation and raise awareness.
