Access NHS Online Resources

Here is a quick run-down of how you can access the NHS-subscribed online resources you need:

You will need your NHS OpenAthens username and password to get access to subscribed resources. Please see our NHS OpenAthens page for information about how to register and maintain your account. If you are having problems with your account please contact your OpenAthens administrator or the eResources Librarian.

Library Search

You can use Library Search to find ebooks. The journals and articles available via Library Search are Keele subscriptions and you will not be able to access these

Many of our popular print books are also available as ebooks. Follow these simple steps to read an ebook.

We have an online collection of Oxford handbooks for UHNM staff. Note that this collection is not available via Library Search. Please go to the Oxford handbooks page on our website for a list of titles available and link to the ebook. You will need your OpenAthens username to access the books.

Databases

You can find all the links to our NHS-subscribed databases on the NHS Resources page on our website. Make sure you use the links on this page as most of the time the link will take you straight to the OpenAthens login page.

Some key resources to be aware of include:

HDAS (Healthcare Databases Advanced Search)
You can use HDAS to search the main healthcare databases such as Medline, CINAHL and Embase (as well as others) for articles on a particular topic. The results provided will include links to the content that is covered by the NHS subscription.

You must log in to the A-Z list with your OpenAthens username so that you can see all the journals available at your Trust.

We keep a list of other Literature Searching Sites. These are key healthcare databases and websites. Searching is often freely available although you may not get access to all the full-text – for articles you can try looking for the journal via the A-Z list.

Subject Links

You can try the subject links section for the topic you are interested in. We’ve listed some popular free resources for particular specialties and healthcare topics.

Coronavirus Resources

Many publishers are making access to research related to the coronavirus / covid-19 freely available and are creating specific collections of resources. We have listed these on our blog. This list is being updated on a regular basis.
