Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Month - November 2020

The pancreas is a gland that produces digestive juices and hormones. Pancreatic cancer is when abnormal cells in the pancreas start to divide and grow in an uncontrolled way and forms a growth/tumour.

If left untreated, the cells can grow into surrounding blood vessels or organs such as the small bowel. These cancer cells may even spread to other parts of the body.

Around 10,300 people are diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in the UK each year. It is the 10th most common cancer in the UK. Pancreatic cancer is more common in older people. More than 45 out of 100 people diagnosed (more than 45%) are aged 75 and over. Pancreatic cancer is uncommon in people under 40 years old.

In the past 10 years, pancreatic cancer rates have increased. In England, pancreatic cancer is more common in people living in poorer areas. It is more common in White and Black people than in Asian people.

Pancreatic Cancer month isn’t just for one country. It brings together all the pancreatic cancer charities and groups around the globe to become a unified, dedicated and hardworking international team; fighting for those who are suffering from the disease.

Help the NHS understand how you access evidence - complete the survey

NHS staff - Your help is required to build understanding of needs for access to evidence in the NHS. The national team for Knowledge and Library Services are researching how NHS staff currently access and use evidence. We have completed interviews with people from all parts of the team and in all settings across the NHS in England. The next phase of the research will seek to validate the needs that have been identified as a result. We want to understand the picture for clinical and non-clinical staff, students and apprentices, those in regular contact with their Knowledge and Library Service and those who are not. You can read about previous user research that informed the creation of the Knowledge and Library Hub and be assured that your input can make the difference. If you can help, please complete this brief survey The survey will close 12 April 2026
