Crisp bag recycling scheme in the Health Library

Library apprentice Paige Simcoe launched a new recycling scheme in the Health Library yesterday. The Crisp Packet Recycling Scheme which is part of the first national crisp packet recycling scheme in the UK is run by Walkers working in partnership with Terracycle.



Please put you empty crisp packets in the special bins located in the Health Library.


Where are the recycling bins?


Currently there are two recycling bins – one by the seating area in the rotunda close to the newspapers and one by the water cooler next to the IT suite

What type of bags can be recycled?

Any brand of crisp packet can be put in the bin.

Please do not put the following items in the bin:
  • Popcorn bags
  • Crisp tubes
  • Pretzel bags
  • Meat snack bags

Why recycle crisp bags?

Approximately 20 million bags of crisps are produced in the UK each day (1).

Many crisp packets contain several layers of plastic which do not biodegrade; this can end up in landfill and the wider environment and cause damage to wildlife and sea life.

What happens to the recycled bags?

The crisp bags are cleaned, shredded and made in to small plastic pellets which are then used to create plastic items.

Please support this scheme and help to reduce pollution.

Reminder: Health Library open for reduced hours over the Christmas holidays 2025

  The Health Library will have reduced opening hours over the Christmas holidays. Wednesday 24th December - Open 9am-4pm Thursday 25th- Sunday 28th December -  Closed Monday 29th- Wednesday 31st December - Open 9am-4pm Thursday 1st January -  Closed Friday 2nd January - Open 9am-4pm Normal opening times resume Saturday 3rd January.
