Students on Electives (Medicine) - no change to library loan rules

If you are embarking on an elective or placement at the end of April or in May and June: You are welcome to continue to loan items from the library, but please be aware that normal loan periods will still apply. Items may be requested by another user and thus need to be returned. Late return of requested items will still incur fines. Automatic renewals will run as normal, but if you wish to try to avoid having an item potentially due for return at a time when you really cannot come in, you can attempt to renew your books early via you account on Library Search.

National Bowel Cancer Screening Awareness Month - April 2018

Bowel cancer is the second biggest cancer killer in the UK, with most people being diagnosed over the age of 60. However it shouldn’t be. It’s treatable and curable especially if diagnosed early. Bowel cancer screening can save lives. Screening aims to detect bowel cancer at an early stage, when treatment has the best chance of working. The test can also find polyps (non-cancerous growths), which might develop into cancer. Polyps can easily be removed, to lower the risk of bowel cancer. Nearly everyone diagnosed at the earliest stage will survive bowel cancer however, this drops significantly as the disease develops. Taking part in bowel cancer screening is the best way to get diagnosed early and early diagnosis saves lives. For more information surrounding Bowel Cancer please visit the NHS Choices and Bowel Cancer UK websites: https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/bowel-cancer-screening/ https://www.bowelcanceruk.org.uk/about-bowel-cancer/screening/ Look out for the UHNM Bowel...
