Library Essentials for Students – Library Training Courses

What is it?
As well as providing you with training sessions booked by your tutor you can also book individually on our training courses delivered throughout the year.

Our training programme includes courses such as:

  • Health Library Induction Plus – you can learn about good quality online resources as well as get a reminder about the Health Library resources
  • Literature Searching – learn how to create a search plan and apply it to the healthcare-specific ebsco databases to get articles for your projects
  • Evidence-based Databases – learn where to get the best high-level evidence from
  • Critical Appraisal – our critical appraisal courses help you to start to develop your skills in appraising articles
  • RefWorks – learn how to use RefWorks to keep track of all your references

How can it help you?
Our training courses are designed to help you to further develop your information searching skills and improve your literature searching.

All our sessions involve hands-on practice time, with a qualified librarian supporting you.

Reminder: Health Library open for reduced hours over the Christmas holidays 2025

  The Health Library will have reduced opening hours over the Christmas holidays. Wednesday 24th December - Open 9am-4pm Thursday 25th- Sunday 28th December -  Closed Monday 29th- Wednesday 31st December - Open 9am-4pm Thursday 1st January -  Closed Friday 2nd January - Open 9am-4pm Normal opening times resume Saturday 3rd January. Please check our website for  current opening hours . Online resources are available via  the Health Library website .
