EMOS Printing & Photocopying Phased Out

EMOS printing / photocopying will no longer be available after 30th June . Please make sure that you use your credits by that date. You can get a refund for credit on working EMOS cards up to 5th October. All Keele users should switch to using their Keele cards for printing / photocopying as soon as possible. Remember that you can top up your Keele card via the reloader machines in the photocopying room – cash machine and debit/ credit machine NHS users can update their membership card so that it can be used to pay for printing (on the Keele network) and photocopying. You can then top up your membership card using the reloader machines in the photocopying room.

NHS Evidence Database Updates

The interface to NHS Evidence Healthcare Databases Advanced Search (HDAS) has been updated. The new features of HDAS include: Clearer screen designs and styles Advanced search – search screen Improved thesaurus layout and functions Advanced search – search preview Access the database from our Healthcare Resources page using your NHS Athens username and password. You can get help using the new interface from our updated online guide or book on a training course to get the most out of your searching.

Books for Sale

The Health Library’s ‘For Sale’ book trolley has been refreshed with more titles. Below is a selection of some of the discarded texts which have been added to the trolley. Items are sold on a first come, first served basis. Healthcare Databases Advanced Search Redesign - Service down

From NHS Evidence: "Please note the Healthcare Databases Advanced Search (HDAS) site will be unavailable from 17:00 today (29 May) until 09.00 on 30 May when the new site goes live. This period of downtime is necessary to upload the new databases onto our systems." You should still be able to access the baseline resources eg medline and Cinahl via Ebsco etc. You can find a list of all the resources on your My Athens page. Go to the Journals and databases page , under the NHS Athens section sign in with your NHS Athens username and password, and page down to the My Athens Resources section.

Keele Cards, EMOS Cards, Printing… Changes are coming…

We now have a Keele card cash reloading machine. You can add credit to your Keele card using cash. There is a minimum of 50p. Note that the machine does not give change. The reloader is available in the Photocopier Room. Remember that we also have a reloader that you can use with your credit / debit card. Keele University will soon be implementing a new printing / photocopying strategy. Keep a look out for more news later. Because of the new printing / photocopying strategy we will be removing the use of EMOS print / photocopy cards shortly. All Keele users are advised to switch to using their Keele cards. Otherwise please keep an eye on the EMOS credits that you have available and ensure you use up those you have. We have an EMOS machine at the counter if you want to check what credit you have got left. More news will be released about printing changes later.

DEMENTIA AWARENESS WEEK - Related Health Library Resources

Dementia Awareness Week   2 0 – 2 6     M a y     2 0 1 2   ‘ Dementia ’ is a term used to describe a serious loss of global cognitive ability in a previously unimpaired person. Symptoms include memory loss, difficulty with communication and reasoning and mood changes.   Dementia is progressive, and the most common manifestations are Alzheimer’s disease and vascular dementia. Dementia Awareness Week aims to raise awareness and to ‘remember the person’ behind the disease.   You can find out more about dementia here at the health library. Clinical Effectiveness Bulletin no. 63, April 2012

Problems accessing JAMA

Our NHS users may experience some problems accessing the JAMA titles. There seems to have been an upset on our My Journals A-Z list and the incorrect holdings are appearing. Users can access titles directly via the JAMA network page , click the Athens sign in link and follow the links to login in with your NHS Athens username and password. We will correct the problem as soon as we can. Apologies for all the inconvenience caused.

Training dates cancelled - HDAS changes

We are expecting changes to the NHS Evidence HDAS interface during the end of May. To account for this we have cancelled some courses in May and the beginning of June related to this resource.
