Find Answers Fast on Clinical Key

Clinical Key is a clinical search engine. Use the simple search interface to search Medline and Clinical Key content for fast clinical answers. You can access: eJournals eBooks Evidence-based Topic Summaries Images and Videos Medline Use the features to save items and create reading lists and presentations.  You can find step-by-step demos on our Information Skills for Health blog . Clinical Key is available to UHNM staff, via your NHS Athens username. Log in via our Healthcare Resources page.

No Big Book Sale this year

There will NOT be a big book sale in the Health Library this year - we don't have sufficient stock to deliver it. Note, however, that the red book sale trolley will still be available throughout the year, and will be populated with withdrawn stock when it is available. The Books Sales Trolley

Finding NHS eJournals

The easiest way to check whether you can access an ejournal is to check via the NHS Journal List: Go to our Journals page Select the NHS Journals option Log in with your NHS Athens username / password Search for the Journal title Screen-shot of example journal title search You will be able to see Where we subscribe to the title – it may be via a database collection, rather than directly from the publisher What holdings you can access – check whether the year / volume you need is covered by our subscription Link to the journal page – you can link to the location where we hold the subscription. Note that you may be required to login to the providers’ website

Training Opportunities at the Health Library

You will find lots of help available at the Health Library: Scheduled Training Programme We run a scheduled training programme throughout the year. You can book on a number of different training courses to help you to develop your literature searching skills and use our resources effectively. You can book online or contact our trainers to reserve a place. Training at Work Our trainers can visit you at work to deliver bespoke sessions for you and your work colleagues whether as part of meetings, training events or on a one-to-one basis. One-to-One Sessions If you struggle to fit in a scheduled course our trainers will try to arrange to deliver you a one-to-one session at your convenience. Online eTutorials We have a number of short, bite-sized etutorials to help you get started using our resources or to help you to develop your information skills . Our etutorials include multimedia and interactive elements.

Childhood Cancer Awareness Month - September 2016

Use Dynamed to support Patient Care

Dynamed is an evidence-based, clinical reference tool you can use to support patient care. Use the simple search interface or browse through the categories to find information about the diseases and conditions affecting your patients. You can find details regarding: epidemiology diagnosis treatment complications and prognosis prevention and screening guidelines and resources Dynamed is available to our UHNM users via your NHS Athens username. Accessing IT Facilities via the Health Library

There are a range of IT facilities that you can access via the Health Library. In the IT suite: Keele networked PCs NHS networked PCs Printing – payment required on the Keele network; free on the NHS network Scanner In the Health Library: Photocopying – pay for photocopying with cash or via your Library / Keele card Desktop power plugs for IT equipment Keele WIFI NHS users can access the Keele network by requesting a temporary Keele login. Come and study at the Health Library

Whether you need a quiet space to revise or want to work with friends and colleagues there are plenty of options at the Health Library: Silent Study Room – individual study space and desk-top power for use with IT equipment Individual Study Space – within the rotunda you can use our flexible study boards to give yourself privacy for studying Group Study Space – use the group study pod to work with friends and colleagues or use the tables by the windows Relaxed Study Space – if you want to relax while you read you can use our more relaxing furniture Desk-top power – many of our desks now have desk-top power plugs for use with IT equipment Photos of the Health Library

Electives (Nursing & Midwifery) - no change to library loan rules

If you are embarking on an elective in the coming weeks, to ensure you do not incur any fines it is advisable to return your books to the library before starting your placement. Students are welcome to continue to borrow items, but please be aware that nor normal requirements to renew items, normal loan periods, and the possibility that items will be recalled or fines incurred for late return/renewal, will still apply.

Kumar & Clark's Clinical Medicine 9th edition NOW IN!

The new edition of the extreeemly popular book Kumar & Clark's Clinical Medicine is now available at the Health Library.

Have you encountered an unusual clinical case, complication or diagnosis?

If you have encountered an unusual clinical case, complication or diagnosis then you can share your experience by publishing a BMJ Case Report. BMJ Case Reports publishes  peer-reviewed, clinically important cases, in common and rare conditions. The Health Library subscription includes the opportunity not only for you to access full-text of published content but also for you to submit your own cases. You can find more information on our BMJ Case Reports support page . This subscription is only available to UHNM staff - you will need an NHS Athens username to access BMJ Case Reports.

Visiting the Health Library? Check our hours and access

If you are planning to visit the Health Library please check our opening hours before you come. We are open 7 days a week (excluding some public holidays). You will find our main doors in the atrium of the Clinical Education Centre , at the Royal Stoke hospital site. During the weekend and after 5:30pm on a week-day evening please use the side-entrance. You can automatically access this entrance using your library or Keele card via the access control system, otherwise use the telecomm system to ask to be let in.
