Diabetes Awareness Week June 8th – 14th June

By 2035 it is estimated that the number of people living with diabetes will rise to 535 million. Over the last two years it has led to the deaths of between 1.5 and 5.1 million people world-wide. Diabetes UK is the UK’s leading diabetes charity and aims to care for, connect with and campaign on behalf of all people affected by and at risk of diabetes; reaching people with diabetes in local communities across the UK.   This year Diabetes Awareness Week falls between the 8 th and 14 th June. The theme is ‘i Can’. Diabetes UK are seeking stories from individuals living with diabetes. Access to Map of Medicine has changed

From 30 May 2014 Map of Medicine's direct access has closed. You can access Map of Medicine within the North, Midlands and East region of England. You will need either your NHS Smartcard or your NHS Athens username and password. Map of Medicine provides access to a wide range of evidence-based pathways, including local care pathways where available. There is public access to national pathways via NHS Choices Map of Medicine Healthguides .

New Oxford Handbooks Online

The Oxford Handbooks ebook collection has been updated to include new titles - Oxford handbook of: Children’s and Young People’s Nursing Clinical Skills in Adult Nursing Epidemiology for Clinicians Gastrointestinal Nursing Medical Statistics Midwifery (updated version) Pain Management eBooks can be accessed at any time and there are no fines. Hundreds more ejournals available to NHS users

Thanks to a pilot project being run by representatives in the UK academic sector, over a thousand ejournals are being made available to NHS users. You can read more about the pilot project here . All the ejournals can be accessed via our NHS Journals A-Z list . You can also browse through the list of titles via a spreadsheet on our website, go to our journals information page and click the link for the file NHS Pilot – Access to academic-licensed research . Most of the titles are only available via the NHS network; Science Direct and Springer titles included in the project are available via NHS Athens username / password. The pilot is expected to end 31 st October 2014.

New Collections – Quick Reference & DVDs

It is now easier to find our Quick Reference collection and DVD collection. You’ll find them on our new bright red shelving unit in the centre of the rotunda. New shleving for the quick reference collection The Quick Reference collection includes dictionaries and thesauri – useful for finding all your relevant keywords and search terms. The DVD collection includes dvds for anatomy, communication skills and Spotting the Sick Child .

Bedside Clinical Guidelines – in print and ebooks

The Bedside Clinical Guidelines provide assistance for the consistent, evidence-based management of patients in acute hospital settings. They are published by The Bedside Clinical Guidelines Partnership and are used within the University Hospital of North Staffordshire (UHNS). There are 7 titles in total. All are available as ebooks via the UHNS Intranet: Emergency Medicine guidelines Medical guidelines Neonatal guidelines Nursing guidelines Obstetric guidelines Paediatric guidelines Surgical guidelines We also hold print copies of the following: Neonatal guidelines (2013-15) Obstetric guidelines (2013-15) Paediatric guidelines (2013-14) A number of guideline sets are also available to Keele students on specific reading lists, via Keele’s KLE. Debit / Credit Card Loader Out of Order

The Card Loader, for use with debit/credit cards, located in the photocopier room at the Health Library, is currently out of order. You can use the cash loader to add money to your Keele or NHS Library card. Keele card holders can also add money to their card online . Apologies for the inconvenience caused. The problem has been reported to our provider.
