NHS e-books

Currently there appears to be a problem accessing NHS nationally purchased online books through the National Library for Health . Alternate access is available through MyiLibrary . Please remember to login using your NHS Athens account. The problem has been reported and is currently under investigation. Edit: This problem has now been resolved

Look out - it's @ Keele

Many Keele staff and students may have noticed the @ Keele logo appearing on many of their favourite information resources. Where ever you see this symbol, it means that you can click on it to check for the resources online availability. The presence of the symbol itself doesn't mean that it will be available electronically. It has now been added to many of the publishing platforms, Keele databases, Google Scholar, Scirus and now the Library catalogue. Click here to visit the full Keele A-Z holdings. Please note that this will search for journal titles not journal content. The databases are the best tool to used for literature searching. NHS can access Keele journals under a walk in licence whilst using the Health Library IT Suite. Please note that due to copyright restrictions, library staff can not provide any copies of Keele articles to NHS staff directly.

24hr opening of campus library

The Main Keele Campus Library will be running a trial 24hr opening of the Library for 5 days a week from Monday 20th April to Friday 29th May. The Main Campus Library will be open from 8.50 am on Monday mornings until 10.00 pm on Saturday evenings. Please note that counter service times remain the same. The out of hours service will be staffed by security guards. Access will be available to the reading areas, group study space/rooms, toilets, vending area and the IT Suite. If you hold a green Keele card, self-issue machines can be used to check stock out. The Health Library will not be participating in this trial.

New England Journal of Medicine

At long last we now have online access to the New England Journal of Medicine online (http://ejournals.ebsco.com/Journal2.asp?JournalID=102417) (all articles from 1993 to present). Direct access is available via computers across Keele Campus, UHNS, and the Health Library. As a joint purchase between NHS and Keele University, you can now access offsite via an NHS Athens account. Keele Athens access is still under negotiation. Please go through either the Keele (http://sfx.exlibrisgroup.com/keele/az/) or NHS A-Z (http://www.library.nhs.uk/booksandjournals) list for access to check current availability options. Some features such as the CME Exam, PowerPoint slides and PDA downloads can only be accessed through personal subscription and are not available to institutions.

Mental health wiki

The Mental Health Wiki was first started as a source of information for lawyers, but now mental health practitioners. The site contains useful updates on the Mental Health Act and links to relevant documents, along with a series of monthly updates . There are three main divisions to the information covering Case Law, Legislation and General Information General information hosts useful descriptions of relative concepts and terminology.

Google Scholar

You can now access subscribed institutional resources at point of search from Google Scholar . To view local resources: - Select Scholar Preferences - Under Library links search for Keele or UHNS - Tick appropriate box - Save preferences Now when you search Google Scholar on that computer, look out for the Health Library print, UHNS full-text and fulltext@Keele to check for local holdings. You may need to be logged in via the appropriate Athens account to view relevant articles. Please note that UHNS holdings are also applicable to all holders of Athens accounts from NHS North Staffordshire, NHS Stoke and the Combined Healthcare Trust. Not all NHS resources have yet been added, please check the Journals A-Z for full list.

Peer repository trial

The Peer repository is an ongoing trial involving the collaboration between publishers, repositories and the research community running until 2011. The project will include a selection of 300 journals from some of the top publishers covering life sciences, medicine, physical sciences, social sciences & humanities. Draft copies of articles undergoing the submission process with notes on the peer review required corrections will be continually added to the repository. The aim of the project is to analysis the impact of systematically archiving on journal viability.

Zetoc

Zetoc table of contents and citation checker package is currently down until further notice. The problem is affecting all Mimas resources and is currently under investigation. This disrupts access both to Keele and NHS Athens users.

Chest pain

The annual evidence update on chest pain is now available via the Cardiovascular Specialist Library on the National Library for Health . The review covers aspects including diagnosis and risk, angina, emergency care, acute coronary care and uncertainties. Each topic looks at major reviews, guidelines, economic evaluations as well as more general resources. Full details of search methodology are included in the introduction .
