Skin Cancer Awareness Month - May 2021

The British Association of Dermatologists (BAD) currently runs a national campaign around skin cancer called Sun Awareness, which includes national Sun Awareness Week in May  which this year falls between the 3rd and 9th May 2021.

In recognition of Skin Cancer Awareness Month the Cancer Research UK Oxford Centre will be posting a series of blog posts highlighting the contribution of Oxford researchers to global efforts to tackle Melanoma.

Melanoma is the 5th most common cancer in the UK, and although it is more common in older people, it is relatively common in younger people. Melanoma is a type of skin cancer that can spread to other organs in the body and the most common sign of melanoma is the appearance of a new mole or a change in an existing mole.
