Change to the access route for British Journal of Radiology (NHS Users)

To access the journal titles from the British Institute of Radiology you will now need to login using your NHS Athens username / password. These titles are only available to UHNS users and include: British Journal of Radiology Imaging Instructions are available on the NHS Journals A-Z list for the title: To access full-text: On the login page, click the OpenAthens link and login You will be returned to the publisher’s homepage Click the journal title you need Search for your article

Problems accessing Springer eJournals (UHNS users)

We are experiencing problems accessing our ejournals provided via Springer, using NHS Athens. This includes current year access to the following titles: Canadian journal of anesthesia Journal of Abnormal Child Psychology Neuroradiology Pediatric Radiology As you log into the Springer site you seem to keep looping around the login process and can’t get into the full-text. We have reported the problem to the publishers and our providers. They don’t seem to be able to fix the problem and are looking at providing us with an alternate access route. We will let you know as soon as they have done this.

European Immunisation Week

20th April - 27th April 2014 In recent weeks it has been reported that there has been a resurgence of diseases once thought to be almost eliminated.  European Immunisation Week promotes the core message that immunisation of every child is vital to prevent diseases and protect life.  The slogan ‘Prevent. Electives (Medicine) - no change to library loan rules

If you are embarking on an elective in the coming weeks, to ensure you do not incur any fines it is advisable to return your books to the library before starting your placement. Students are welcome to continue to borrow items, but please be aware that normal requirements to renew items, normal loan periods, and the possibility that items will be recalled or fines incurred for late return/renewal, will still apply.

Easter Opening Times

The Health Library will be closed over the Easter Holidays as follows: Good Friday 18 th April to Bank Holiday Monday 21 st April inclusive. Remember that online resources are available 24/7, including ebooks, ejournals and databases. Campus library opening times are available here .

Need Help using Dynamed?

Have you got to grips with using Dynamed yet? Dynamed is an evidence-based, clinical reference tool providing you with the most up-to-date information on a wide range of diseases and conditions. It is available to our UHNS Athens users . This simple and easy to use search tool helps you to find clinical summaries and guidelines as well as the latest practice-changing research. Use Dynamed to support you during clinics, ward rounds and case discussions. We have developed a tutorial to start you off with simple searching and setting up alerts.

Bug Fix for accessing NHS Journals A-Z List

We have been made aware of an error that occurs using Internet Explorer 8.0 on the NHS N3 network to access the NHS Journals A-Z list. IE 8.0 detects a problem and shuts down the browser. screen-shot of typical error If you encounter this problem please try the following fix: 1. Open up browser 2. Go to >Tools, >Compatibility View Settings 3. In the resulting box enter http://www.library.nhs.uk   into the input box labelled “Add this website:” and click the Add button.   You should now see “library.nhs.uk” in the bottom window labelled “Websites you’ve added to compatibility view:”. 4. Close the session, then try again. You should now be able to log in to the site as normal.
