Trials and Tribulations of finding full-text articles in the NHS

We know that getting to the full-text of an article can sometimes throw up unexpected errors. The complicated nature of multiple resources all linking together means that there are a lot of moving parts that all need to work together seamlessly.

Here are some of the common issues that we come across:

Too many results returned on the NHS Knowledge & Library Hub

The NHS Hub can return thousands of items from a search. Use the filter options on the results page to focus your results and get the article you need.

ePub ahead of Print availability

ePub ahead of print refers to articles that are published ahead of the next expected issue. There can be problems with their availability.

Problems accessing NHS Resources on the Keele Network

We know that some of our NHS users also use the Keele network. We have encountered problems with some NHS resources which are affected by the network. There are steps you can take to try to work round this issue.

Browzine article not found on platform error

We have noticed that an error can occur when new journal issues are released. Whilst very frustrating, this is temporary and short-lived.

Working with multiple resources from multiple organisations

We usually advise you to make the most of all the resources that are available to you; whether from the NHS, a university or a society. You need to be aware that there are some complications you will need to work around if doing this.

Dry January - 2017

Dry January is Alcohol Concern's flagship campaign. The campaign is a chance to ditch the hangover, reduce the waistline, and save money by giving up alcohol for 31 days.  Instead of talking about what fun (or not) you might have drinking, this sparks off lots of different conversations about the benefits of having a break from drinking. These are the sort of conversations that Alcohol Concern wants to have with people. In January 2014 according to Alcohol Concern, over 17,000 Britons stopped drinking for that month. While there is controversy as to the efficacy and benefits of the practice, a 2014 survey by the University of Sussex found that six months following January 2014, out of 900 surveyed participants in the custom, 72% had "kept harmful drinking episodes down" and 4% were still not drinking.
