eBooks for NHS staff

 No time to visit the Health Library to collect books? That’s OK! We’ve got a great range of online titles. 

We’ve just updated our eBooks web page, listing the collections that you can access and where you can find them: 


  • NHS Knowledge and Library Hub – wide range of ebooks from the NHS core content purchased collections. 
  • Library search – some ebook titles are available to NHS members via our library catalogue.  
  • Oxford Medicine Online – key collection of essential handbooks from the NHS core content collection; also available via the Hub and Library Search. 
  • Clinical Key ebooks – range of specialty texts for UHNM staff only. 
  • Kortext NHS ebook collection – a wide spread of topics are covered by this NHS core content collection, including management, sustainability and wellbeing; also available via the Hub. 
  • Medical Exam Revision collection – whilst most of these books are in print format, some are also available as ebooks; available via Library Search.
  • Medical Education Collection – made available to NHS staff in partnership with Keele University, this collection covers anatomy, pharmacology and more; as well as videos, quizzes and cases. eBooks are also listed on Library Search. 
  • Bedside Clinical Guidelines – special collection of ebooks created locally. 
  • eBooks from MPFT – link to the ebook collection of the MPFT Library Service; available to MPFT employees only.

NHS resources are changing from the 30th June 2025

  A range of our resources for NHS customers are purchased by NHS England as a national Core Content offering. At the end of June 2025, the content of the core collection is changing.  You may find some resources are no longer available to you. Specifically affected are the Oxford Handbooks e-books and access to a range of ProQuest databases.   Oxford Handbooks: Some Oxford Handbooks are being replaced by locally purchased e-book access. We also have a range of Oxford Handbooks available in print from the health libraries. To find our local resources - in the NHS Knowledge and Libraries Hub search for Oxford Handbook. Then select the limiter 'Library Catalogue only'. Limiters are located on the left hand side of the screen. Both local e-books and print books will then show in the results. Protect your searches, alerts and articles/references ahead of change to NHS Knowledge and Library Hub.

  In early July the interface for the NHS Knowledge and Library Hub will have a new look and functionality; using EBSCO’s new user interface. Ahead of the change we have been alerted that if users have created search alerts saved searches in customer folders saved bibliographic details of items they need to take steps to help their information carry over to the new system. Take these steps now to be ready for the change. It is advisable to do this before 1 st July.   1)    Search Alerts Search alerts will not carryover to the new system. Instead – users are advised to find their alert and save it as a saved search instead. Once the new interface is live, the search can be re-run and users should be able to set up a new alert. More Journals now accessible online for UHNS Athens Users

UHNS staff can now access: American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynaecology European Journal of Vascular and Endovascular Surgery Gastroenterology Pain Tuberculosis online using your NHS Athens username and password. These titles are available via the Elsevier ScienceDirect database. To find our subscribed journal titles go to the NHS My Journals link from our journals page http://www.keele.ac.uk/healthlibrary/find/journals/ , and login with your NHS Athens username.
