National No Smoking Day - 8th March 2023

Smoking is still one of the biggest causes of death and illness in the UK.  According to the NHS website, around 78,000 people in the UK die every year from smoking.  Lung conditions are perhaps the most common and most widely recognized as being caused by smoking; with smoking causing around 70% of diagnosed lung cancer cases.  However, smoking can cause oral and thoracic cancers and either cause, or contribute to, cancers in other areas of the body as well.  Smoking also increases the risk of developing heart and circulatory problems, such as COPD, heart disease and stroke.   National No Smoking Day is a nationwide health awareness day aimed at reminding people of the serious health risks and highlighting the support available to assist those wishing to quit.   RELATED LIBRARY RESOURCES     For anyone struggling to quit smoking, those helping patients to quit, those caring for patients with smoking related illnesses and those studying or re...
